Our top 12 players to watch at #FIBAU20Europe in Sopron

SOPRON (FIBA U20 Women's European Championship 2018) – You can expect fireworks at the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship and here are 12 players who we expect to light it up in Sopron.

Satou Sabally (GER)

The MVP of Germany's title-winning campaign in Division B last summer, Sabally has since won rave reviews for her performances in the NCAA with the University of Oregon.  Her outstanding athletic ability means that Germany have a reference player for this tournament and someone who is tipped to do exciting things at the pro-level in the future.

Zala Friskovec (SLO)

A driving force last summer for Slovenia when they attained history with their first ever Final appearance, Friskovec also did the business at the U18 event here in Sopron. A leader on the floor who puts her intelligent play to use, she is likely to be the leading scorer, but also look to contribute defensively in a big way. She's also a potential WNBA draft prospect.

Agnes Studer (HUN)

One of the most exceptional players at the 2017 edition in Matosinhos when she dished up a stunning 7.3 assists per game, Studer has made strides with the senior team since. She will be one of Hungary's main weapons and with some key players absent, they will rely on the energy and passing skills of their dynamic playmaker even more than usual.

Kamilla Ogun (RUS)

Ogun has missed some youth summers and after skipping 2017, she is back at the same venue where she excelled at U18 level two years ago when taking Russia onto the podium.  From the incredible conveyor belt of talent at the famous Sparta&K M.R. .Vidnoje club, the guard is as smart as they come and will be the centerpiece for Russia.

Digna Strautmane (LAT)

If Latvia punch hard in Sopron, you can expect Strautmane to be prime All-Star Five material as she is the do-it-all leader for her country. Having impressed in the NCAA at Syracuse, she has even more confidence than usual and will be eyeing up a medal charge. She is ruthless inside  and if she finds her downtown range, she can be unstoppable.

Iris Junio (ESP)

The Spanish ace has shown remarkable resilience to come back from injuries which derailed her progress for a couple of years. after really coming to prominence at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in 2014. However, you can't keep top class quality down for long and Junio is back on track and highly dangerous.

Olbis Futo Andre (ITA)

A rebounding machine with outstanding athleticism, Italy's opponents better box out or they will feel the pain from the prowess on the glass of Andre. Now a senior player, she has taken part in the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers and will soon be a EuroLeague Women performer at Famila Schio, which underlines her ability.

Viktoriia Zavialova (RUS)

As Maria Vadeeva and Raisa Musina stole the show in Russia's extraordinary title success and upset of the USA at last summer's FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup, the impact of Zavialova was perhaps overshadowed. Her 5.6 assists per game spoke volumes for her skills and potential, so watch for her shining again.

Tima Pouye (FRA)

Pouye arrives off the back of a brilliant season for Tarbes in the LFB who made the Championship Final. One of three nominees for the LFB Young Player of the Year, she will be a central figure for France, having starred at U18 last year here in Sopron with a bronze - as well as at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2017.

Virag Kiss (HUN)

Having taken a sabbatical from the game and with many fans fearing one of the most talented 'bigs' to come out of Hungary in generations might not be seen again, Kiss is back for the first time in 3 years. That is a huge boost to her nation as she will tidy up inside and on the glass, so expect double-doubles and clutch buckets in the paint.

Klara Lundquist (SWE)

A scoring sensation, Lundquist has recently taken the step up to the senior ranks and could be the main offensive ace for her country for many years to come. For now, she must focus on firing her team to success in Sopron, having averaged more than 23, 16 and 17 points per tournament in her last three youth outings.

Laure Resimont (BEL)

Having attained integration into the senior team, Resimont is holding out for a place at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018. A smart performance in Sopron will help and she will be the anchor for Belgium, having impressed at last year's edition in Matosinhos with 12.9 points per game.
