Italy stun France: Friskovec erupts to get Slovenia first win

SOPRON (FIBA U20 Women's European Championship 2018) - Italy have showed their podium credentials at the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship 2018 after beating title frontrunners, France.

Italy posted a comeback 69-76 victory as they showed they can mix it with the best teams in the competition.

Lorela Cubaj hit the deal-breaker with a nice 'And-1' play down the stretch.

Another player who was on fire was Zala Friskovec ,who showed out for Slovenia to inspire them to their first success. She racked up the highest individual score of the competition so far.

Her 37 points took the 2017 Finalists to a somewhat surprise 71-84 win against Russia - taking into account they lost on opening day and had no wins during preparation.

Hungary are showing their teeth  after the hosts blasted their way to a second win in as many days. Having smashed their way past Croatia in their opener, Latvia looked like they would be much tougher opponents, but Hungary hit top gear after the interval to claim a rousing 51-66 victory.

Livia Gereben starred with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Agnes Studer came up with the play of the game - only to be helped from the floor with a worrying injury just moments later.

There were a number of countries who picked up first victories of the tournament, including Portugal who outlasted Netherlands 57-65.

That was mainly due to Ana Rodrigues, who both lit up the highlights reel and also poured in 25 points, to go with 11 rebounds and 4 assists.
