Bronze medal beckons and Division A survival ticket to be taken

MATOSINHOS (FIBA U20 Women's European Championship) - The last day of the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship isn't only about the title game, with a bronze medal to be snapped up and the last ticket for the 2018 top flight.

Russia might not have expected to be facing France in the fight for the third step of the podium, but that is how it panned out after their opponents were on the wrong end of a dramatic Semi-Final tie with Slovenia.

It sets up a fascinating bronze medal contest, with Russia having to hit back from a loss for the first time and France having only been previously defeated in the opening game of the competition.

Russia will look to the in-form Elizaveta Shabanova and Yulia Kozik to propel them to their second bronze medal in a row, while France will be hoping their shooters can re-discover their touch.

Meanwhile, there will also be either joy or agony for Lithuania and Netherlands. In a huge game between the nations, the winner will survive for another year in the top flight, while the loser will fall through the trap door to Division B.

The frontcourt clash between Janis Ndiba and Laura Juskaite will be compelling, with both players harvesting mammoth double-doubles for their respective countries on Saturday to extend their hopes of survival.

Other teams will play for their best possible placings, with Spain and Slovenia locking horns in the title game.
