Czech Republic celebrate first gold, Lithuania advance to Division A

ORADEA (FIBA U20 Women's European Championship, Division B) - Czech Republic won their maiden gold, defeating Belarus in the Final. Both teams will be joined by Lithuania in Division A next summer.

Czech Republic were in control of the Final from start to finish, grabbing a 24-point lead at one point. It finished 68-47, behind 18 points and 8 rebounds from Tereza Vitulova. She was joined in the double digit club, as tournament MVP Veronika Vorackova scored 12, Lucie Hoskova collected an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double, and Julie Pospisilova gathered in 12 rebounds to go along with her 8 points.

Maryia Vasileuka was the lone warrior in double digits for Belarus, scoring 15 points, winning the country's second medal at the event, their first in 12 years. Czech Republic were third in 2010, second in 2013, but add a gold to their trophy room in 2018.

Along with the two finalists, Lithuania are also heading to Division A next season. Egidijus Zenevicius' girls held on for a 53-48 triumph against hosts Romania. Gabija Meskonyte with 15 and Rasa Knyzaite with 10 were the only players in double figures for Lithuania, whilst Alina Podar had 11 for Romania.

Elsewhere, All-Star Five member Ilayda Guner put up 26 points and 11 rebounds to help Turkey win fifth place after a 71-53 win over Israel. Ukraine finish seventh with a 78-72 win over Bulgaria, and Greece's Angeliki Vintsilaiou was a rebound and two assists away from a triple-double in her 20-point outing against Great Britain. Greece won 72-64 to finish ninth.

Lastly, Denmark end their run with 11th spot at the event. Their 74-56 victory over Iceland was all about Lena Svanholm and her 20-point, 19-rebound double-double.
