Slovak Republic, Belarus score big wins, Israel get on the board

EILAT (FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship, Division B) - Four teams have managed to maintain perfect records on the second day of action at the FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship, Division B in Eilat, with Belarus, Germany, Great Britain and Slovak Republic staying on the straight and narrow on Sunday.

There was no match for Slovak Republic's 32-point victory against Iceland, with the Linda Dubenova-led side earning their second win in as many days in Group A with a 68-36 hammering of their Nordic rivals.

Dubenova led the well-balanced Slovak Republic offense with 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Thelma Dis Agustsdottir collected 12 points, 7 boards and 3 steals for Iceland.

After starting the tournament with a one-point win against Ukraine, Germany managed to get luck on their side once again in registering a 67-65 victory against Greece to also move to 2-0.

Johanna Sophie Klug double-doubled with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners, while Maria Fasoula's 25 points proved not enough for the Greeks, who dropped to 1-1.

Meanwhile, the highly-rated Czech Republic got on the board with a 79-60 win against the still-winless Ukraine behind Michaela Gaislerova's 19-point and 6-rebound excellent individual display.

In Group B, it was Belarus and Great Britain moving to the top of the standings after inscribing wins against Croatia and Romania, respectively.

The Volha Padabed-coached Belorussians outlasted Croatia 79-72 with a team-oriented win, highlighted by 24 assists. One of the opening day's heroes Hanna Brych was the top scorer for Belarus with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.

Tihana Stojsavljevic was the key figure for Croatia with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, but fouled out in the closing moments of the contest.

Great Britain took the scenic route in defeating Romania, running up the score to 74-48 to take a one-sided win, with Gabriele Nikitinaite bouncing back with a 20-point, 4-rebound and 4-assist performance after a scoreless off-game on opening day.

Tournament hosts Israel, now 1-1, also got their win count rolling with a 79-50 blowout against Ireland, as Eden Rotberg did a fine job of leading her team once again with an efficient 16 points to her name.
