Greece set a tournament-high, Great Britain hold on to perfect record

CHALKIDA (FIBA U20 European Championship 2016 Division B) - Great Britain left it late, but even in a low scoring affair with the Netherlands, the British team stayed perfect.

Rens Butter gave the Dutch a 38-36 lead with 2:30 minutes remaining. Great Britain then found their stroke and connected on three consecutive possessions, with Callum Lawson and Pharroh Gordon creating a 6-0 run for a 42-38 lead heading into the final 90 seconds. Netherlands scored on a couple of free throws, but Gordon and Lawson held their nerve at the other end to give Great Britain a 48-40 win in Group C.

Lawson scored a game-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Great Britain's 4-0 record is enough to put them through to the Quarter-Finals, and they will fight another perfect team - Greece - for first spot in the group.

Also in Group C, Greece set a new tournament-high in points scored. The hosts defeated Kosovo 103-44, as Vasileios Toliopoulos led four players in double figures with 19 points in as many minutes. Ireland defeated Albania 67-47, Jordan Blount finishing with 18 points, six rebounds and six steals.

Greece and Great Britain will both keep an eye on the developments in Group D. Croatia finished on top of the group with a 4-0 record, following their 92-54 win over Slovak Republic. Luka Bozic collected a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Croatia will now enjoy their two days off.

With Croatia resting, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Bulgaria are fighting for a place in the Quarter-Finals. Bosnia and Herzegovina took a big step towards second spot in Group D with a 73-58 win over Romania. Kenan Karahodzic had 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while Edin Atic claimed a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Bosnia and Herzegovina will play against Bulgaria on the final day of group play, whilst Romania face Slovak Republic.

Montenegro secured first place in Group A with a 78-44 triumph against Armenia. Vasilije Knezevic had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Ognjen Carapic continued on a high level with 13 points in 24 minutes of play. Georgia are closest to second place in the group. An 82-55 win over Portugal was their second of the championship, David Lomidze was the game hero with 25 points on 6-of-11 shooting from long range.

In Group B, Poland climbed up to a 3-0 record with a 60-48 win against Estonia, but the real fight is taking place behind their backs. Russia defeated Belarus 84-58, as Kirill Pisklov collected 27 points on 10-of-14 from the field. Poland lead the way, Russia stand at 2-2, Iceland at 2-1, and Belarus at 1-2. Iceland hold the tie-breaker over Russia, but a potential three-way tie could see Russia through to the Quarter-Finals.
