Double joy for Nunez as Spain's guard awarded tournament MVP

PODGORICA (Montenegro) - Juan Nunez had extra reason to celebrate after being voted FIBA U20 European Championship MVP following Spain's title triumph, to headline the tournament's All-Star Five.

The 18-year-old point guard stepped up in the knockout stages with a best of 18 points coming in the Semi-Final win over Israel. Nunez averaged 11.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game as a reliable presence throughout their run to being crowned champions.


It wasn't to be in the Final for Lithuania and Mantas Rubstavicius, but the 20-year-old certainly turned heads in the tournament as the leading scorer with 19.7 points per game - boosted by the incredible 38-point haul against France in the Quarter-Finals - and of course earned a place in the tournament's All-Star Five.

Fedor Zugic delighted the home crowd throughout the week in Podgorica and his team-high contribution of 18. points per game played a vital role in helping Montenegro secure a medal with their 3rd-place finish.

The small-ball lineup also saw a place cemented by Israel's Noam Dovrat having finished in the top 10 of both scoring and dimes with 17.7 points and 4.4 assists per outing as well as 5.4 rebounds, though his side missed out on a medal.

Adem Bona, who completed the lineup,  had a standout individual campaign for Turkey with multiple highlights and a tournament double-double after averaging 17.0 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.
