Big nations set to fall in Quarter-Finals at #FIBAU18Europe Women

UDINE (FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2018) - The Quarter-Finals of the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2018 are set and there could be some big casualties in a mouth-watering line-up.

Reigning champions Belgium or powerhouse Spain will miss out on the podium as they are paired together after the holders swamped Slovenia 59-35 and Spain strode past Poland 61-40.

MVP candidates Billie Massey and Maria Pendande starred with double-doubles for their respective nations. The former led Belgium by racking up 15 points and 10 boards, while Pendande handed Spain 17 points and 16 rebounds.

Another frontrunner will fall when Hungary meet France, although the French team might fancy their chances after erupting 91-47 against Bosnia and Herzegovina and posting the highest score of the competition so far. Hungary had to hold off Croatia 63-58 in a nerve-shredding conclusion.

Nyara Sabally returned for Germany as they powered past Italy 46-67 off the back of 12 points and 15 rebounds from the center. However, the win was marred when she once more went to the bench injured. Hopefully she will be able to line up against Czech Republic, who booked their place with a convincing 71-37 triumph against Ireland.

Finally, there will be an intense derby game between Russia and Latvia - one that looks closely matched on paper. Russia managed to roll past Serbia 63-54 and Latvia kept Sweden at arms' length 59-47.

Quarter-Final ties

Belgium v Spain
Hungary v France
Germany v Czech Republic
Latvia v Russia

Meanwhile Croatia, Ireland, Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden and hosts Italy, will all focus on trying to extend their Division A status by competing in the Classification Round.
