Russia were again involved in late drama, coming back strong in the fourth quarter to tie their match with Turkey before dominating in the extra period. Raisa Musina was as instrumental as ever, notching a huge double-double of 26 points and 21 rebounds.
Slovak Republic got their first win of the campaign with a fine fourth-quarter comeback against Netherlands, who remain winless. Michaela Balazova was fouled in the dying moments of regulation only to miss both her free throws with 0.01 on the clock - but her team-mates had her back and pulled away in overtime.
Earlier in the day, Latvian forward Digna Strautmane notched her second tournament double-double to lead her team to an impressive Group A victory over Czech Republic.
Italy survived a strong first half from the Israeli team to pull away down the stretch and grab their first win in Sopron.
Croatia started the day by taking down neighbours Slovenia for their first win, despite Aleksandra Kroselj’s 27 points for the losing team.
The other Group D match saw France dominate in the fourth quarter to break Hungarian hearts, with Alexia Chartereau racking up 19 points in the victory.
Spain overwhelmed Belgium to take an emphatic victory, while Serbia got off the mark with an outstanding second-half performance to take down Lithuania.
