Armenia and Georgia top the Groups ahead of Semi-Finals

TBILISI (FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2016 Division C) - Armenia stayed undefeated with a win over Wales, while Georgia held on for a 55-51 victory against Malta to win first place in Group B.

The hosts led by as many as 14 in the final quarter, but Jasmine Abela scored back-to-back three-pointers to trim the deficit back to single digits with three minutes left. Once Hannah Al Tumi joined the run with a pair of free throws, Malta crawled all the way back to 54-51 in the final minute. But that was where the comeback stopped. Ana Kavtaradze's free throw was enough to clinch a third win for Georgia.

Georgia rode on 21 points by Natalia Otkhmezuri, their sole performer in double digits. Their 24 turnovers did not prove costly as they played brilliant defence themselves, forcing 31 Malta turnovers. Sophie Abela had 16 points, eight rebounds and five steals for the defeated side.

Georgia will play Andorra in the Semi-Finals, while Malta face a tough task against a perfect Armenian team. Armenia grabbed 24 offensive rebounds against Wales, and their defence allowed Wales just a 14% shooting day from the field in a 70-28 win. Anna Aslanian, still a 15-year-old, had a monster game under the basket, finishing with 20 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks and four steals. Emily Stradling scored a half of all the points for Wales with 14.

Kosovo defeated Gibraltar 79-31 in the final game of Group B. Kosovo will carry that victory into the second round, as both teams have to play Wales in the Classification Group 5-7.

The Semi-Finals will be played on Tuesday, with the Final coming on Wednesday.
