Norway claim Division C title after downing hosts Cyprus in Final

NICOSIA (FIBA U18 European Championship 2017, Division C) - Norway got the upper hand on tournament hosts Cyprus for the second time at the FIBA U18 European Championship 2017, Division C to claim gold medals in Nicosia.

Having already defeated their Group A rivals in the Preliminary Round, Norway proved their superiority once again in the Final with an 84-53 triumph against the heavily supported Cyprus at the Eleftheria Sports Arena on Sunday.

Mikal Gjerde led the winners with 19 points, Ulrik Stranger-Johannesen added 15, while Christian Toefte finished the game with 7 points and 11 rebounds.

For Cyprus, Iliadis had a team-high 15 points and 5 assists, while Avgoustinos Sofroniou chipped in with 14 points, 11 boards and 4 assists.

After a disappointing loss to Cyprus in the Semi-Finals on Saturday, Malta bounced back by nipping Moldova for bronze with a 68-61 victory in the third-place game, as Kurt Cassar roasted the defense with 31 points and 20 rebounds, also handing out 5 blocks.

Victor Legosin and Vadim Biciov scored 20 points apiece for Moldova, who had to settle for fourth place after not being able to come up with answers against the 6ft 9in (2.06m) opponent inside the paint.

Kosovo finished the tournament on a high note and claimed fifth place in the standings after downing Armenia 74-52 in the Classification Games, with Dardan Kapiti and Gazzali Makasqi leading the way.

Kapiti had 15 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals and Makasqi nearly approached a triple-double with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals, while Georgi Shakhnazarov scored 18 points for Armenia.

Meanwhile, San Marino secured a seventh-place finish after finishing the tournament with a 74-59 victory against the winless Gibraltar behind a 23-point and 5-rebound performance by Giovanni Ugolini.
