Iceland's floating bomb sinks Hungary, three-way tie at the top of Group B

TALLINN (FIBA U18 European Championship 2017, Division B) - Iceland showed nerves of steel, hitting the game-winner against Hungary with just three seconds left on the game clock.

Andras Dancsecs sank both free throws to tie the game at 72-all with seven seconds to play. Iceland though had the final say, as the inbound play was executed to perfection, freeing up Hilmar Petursson on the right side of the court. His floater was a thing of beauty, setting the final score at 74-72.

Petursson finished with 8 points, Sigvaldi Eggertsson had a team-high 18, whilst Dancsecs' 20 points go to waste for Hungary, who have dropped to 0-2 in Group B. Bulgaria and Georgia have the same records, as they have lost to Croatia and Belarus on Day 2, respectively.

Defense was key for Croatia, holding Bulgaria to just 4-of-21 from beyond the arc in a 67-61 win. Domagoj Saric led the offensive charge with 14 points, Croatia are a 2-0 team in Group B. So are Belarus, who had the easiest task of the leading trio. They scored 55 first-half points, Georgia had to settle for a 97-63 defeat. Yauhen Massalski dominated down low with 16 points, 15 boards and 4 blocks.

The other three groups have followed the same blueprint, two teams at 2-0, two at 1-1 and a couple of them still winless in Groups A, C, D. Great Britain allowed the Netherlands to score 31 points in the final quarter, but still managed to take an 87-76 win and stay perfect in Group A. There will be only one unbeaten team in the group after Day 3, as Team GB's next opponent Sweden is the only other team at 2-0, following an 84-61 win over Albania. Czech Republic defeated Luxembourg 76-51 to join the Netherlands at 1-1.

Unbeaten Group C leaders Poland and Israel will also meet on Sunday. All 12 Polish players scored against Azerbaijan to claim a 73-47 win, and Adrian Bogucki needed just 16 minutes to finish with an 11-point, 16-rebound double-double. Israel were tested by Portugal, but Amit Ebo's clutch three-pointer paved the way to a 70-64 triumph. Ebo kept his calm when it mattered most, even though he was 2-of-9 from long range before the dagger. Staying in Group C - Romania entered the win column with a 71-53 stifling of Austria. Dimitri Georgiadis led the way with 18 points and 7 rebounds.

Finally, in Group D Estonia and Belgium maintained their winning ways. Estonia created a double-digit lead in the first quarter, Robin Kivi put up 14 points to finish the job against Denmark. Final score - 82-50 Estonia. MKD learned all about Belgium defense, going a dismal 3-of-26 from three-point territory in an 85-65 loss. Noel Coleman had a game-high 21 points for Belgium. Switzerland celebrated their first win of the competition, a 72-56 victory over Ireland. Laurent Zoccoletti was all over the floor with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, 15 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks.
