Italian comeback stuns France on day of Quarter-Final drama

KAUNAS (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2018) - Italy came back from 11 points down to eliminate defending champions France, joining Turkey, Spain and Czech Republic in the Semi-Finals.

A new champion will be crowned after a dramatic day of action, capped by Italy's stunning comeback victory in the last game of the day. Meriem Nasraoui had 19 points and Giulia Natali added 18 as France's offense slumped down the stretch.

Italy will meet Spain in Friday's Semi-Final after the Spanish team cruised past Poland 72-32 with a stunning first half. Laia Lamana had 11 points, 9 steals and 5 assists, while Alejandra Sanchez top-scored with 15 points, all from behind the arc.

Turkey stunned Russia with a fantastic display to take a 58-47 victory. Turkish captain Derin Erdogan led the way with 18 points and was ably assisted by Melek Uzunoglu, who added 12 points, 8 boards, 3 blocks and 3 steals.

They will meet Czech Republic in the Semi-Final after Katerina Zeithammerova's dramatic game-winner with three seconds remaining sealed a rollercoaster match against Hungary, who had led for most of the second half.

Denmark secured Division A status for a second successive year for the first time in their history with a dominant 70-49 win over Serbia, while there were also victories for Latvia, Germany and hosts Lithuania in classification action. Serbia will compete with Croatia, Belgium and Netherlands on Friday and Saturday to determine which of the four will avoid the drop to Division B.
