All you need to know: FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2023, Division B

PODGORICA (Montenegro) - The FIBA U16 Women's European Championship, Division B is one of 16 youth events taking place during the summer of 2023.

The tournament will take place in Podgorica, Montenegro from August 10-19, 2023.

Who is participating?

A total of 20 teams will compete for the title in Division B. They have been split into four groups of five teams each. The Group Phase is as follows:

Group A: Austria, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland
Group B: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland, Montenegro, Sweden
Group C: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Great Britain, Iceland, Netherlands
Group D: Estonia, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway, Ukraine

What is the schedule?

The Group Phase will take place across the first six days of the tournament with a rest day on August 13 and August 16. Classification games will begin on August 17, as well as the Quarter-Finals on August 18. The competition will continue in the form of the bracket with the Quarter-Finals, until the Final on August 19, with the Classification games also determining each of the 20 positions.

Who were the winners in 2022? 

Serbia were crowned winners last year after cruising past Turkey 84-66 in Podgorica, Montenegro.  Jana Vesic led with 18 points and Lana Maric recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Turkey standout Selin Tekin finished with 17 points.

The trio of medalists listed above were promoted to Division A, with the relegated teams of Denmark, Lithuania and Germany taking their place this year.

Former MVPs 

Lana Maric took home MVP honors after recording four double-doubles in seven games to averaged a super double-double across the competition of 13.6 points, 10.7 rebounds - as well as 2.7 steals and 2.0 blocks per outing.
