Denmark, Switzerland continue undefeated march in Group D

SKOPJE (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2017, Division B) - Denmark and Switzerland continued their victorious ways at the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2017, Division B in Skopje, inscribing their third wins in a row in Group D.

There was no stopping the Danes at the Boris Trajkovski Sports Center, with coach Susie Heede-Andersen's side steamrolling the Slovak Republic 71-49 in a one-sided display to improve to a 3-0 mark.

Katrine Jessen double-doubled for the winners with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Malene Pedersen added 15 points and 9 boards, while Tereza Podhradska was the most effective Slovak player with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Switzerland stayed toe-to-toe with Denmark in the group table by registering an equally impressive 79-39 victory over Great Britain, with Emma Chardon posting 18 points and 10 rebounds and Charlotte Kohler chipping in with 11 points. Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina recovered from their defeat to Denmark with an 88-45 victory over Albania, improving to a 2-1 mark.

Having clipped Israel by a single point in their tournament-opener, Sweden kept their momentum in Group C and made it two wins in as many tries with a 57-39 win against fellow Scandinavians from Iceland. In the other game of the group, Greece moved to a 3-0 record and maintained their grip on the top spot with a 68-31 triumph over Luxembourg.

Slovenia suffered their first misstep in Group B, as they were handed a 66-64 defeat by Ukraine after coming up short on their nearly-successful double-digit comeback in the fourth quarter. The tournament hosts, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, celebrated their first win by topping Moldova 87-30, while Belgium moved to 3-0 after coasting to an 82-36 win over Ireland.

There were two blowouts in Group A as well, with Portugal destroying Estonia 71-24 with 12 different scorers and Finland running away with a 58-23 win over Norway, marked with another boxscore delight by Awak Kueier, who had 13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.
