Lithuania make statement win on the first day in Radom

RADOM (FIBA U16 European Championship 2016) - Lithuania extracted revenge for last year's final defeat with a crushing 96-46 victory albeit against an entirely new Bosnia and Herzegovina roster.

Five players hit double figures for Lithuania as they laid down a marker for the rest of the field in Radom.

Also in Group C, Montenegro edged out France 59-55 as they overturned an eight-point deficit at half-time with Nikola Zizic compiling 18 points and 15 rebounds

Earlier, in Group A, Latvia opened the tournament with a 79-71 success over Italy while Spain followed with a convincing 80-50 triumph against promoted Sweden.

14-year-old Usman Garuba produced an impressive efficiency rating of 37 after putting 21 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists in the win for Spain.

Despite loud support from the home faithful, Poland's campaign started with a 73-49 loss against Turkey, who were led by 19 points and 8 assists from Eray Akyuz.

Croatia were also Group B victors as Luka Samanic fought through the pain of an early injury to record 16 points in a 54-41 win against Germany.

In Group D, Robin Avist set the early benchmark for individual points tally as he scored 29 to guide Finland past Greece, 74-67, while Serbia overcame a slow start to defeat Estonia, 77-62.
