KRAKOW (Euroleague Women 2017/EuroCup Women 2017) - Wisla Can-Pack have made an early statement in the Polish League after Ewelina Kobryn inspired a one-sided success against fellow EuroLeague Women competitors CCC Polkowice.
WISLA VETERAN KOBRYN ON FIRE
Polish national team kingpin Ewelina Kobryn rolled back the years over the weekend to help Wisla Can-Pack strike a blow to arch rivals CCC Polkowice in the race for the BLK title. The center was on fire during an imposing 91-67 triumph as she racked up an outstanding double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds.
GRUDA BRINGS THE NOISE
After all the pre-season hype and then belated arrival off the back of her WNBA success with the Los Angeles Sparks, Sandrine Gruda lived up to her billing as the French star dazzled on her Fenerbahce debut.
She harvested 23 points and 12 rebounds as her team claimed a 76-64 derby victory against Istanbul Universitesi.
Galatasaray continued their good start with a crushing 92-59 victory over EuroLeague Women side Mersin, who will be hugely concerned by their performance. Moriah Jefferson led Galatasaray with 23 points.
There will also be concerns for Samsun, who were well beaten 72-55 at Adana Aski. However, there was no trouble for Bellona Agua in comfortably holding off Besiktas 66-56.
Yakin Dogu Universitesi are proving they know how to get it done in tight games after following up their slender EuroCup Women win at Olympiacos with a similarly nail-biting 73-72 triumph at Hatay BSB. Anna Vajda dropped 16 points on her former team.
EARLY SEASON WORRIES FOR ESBVA-LM
Having made some significant signings in the summer, it isn't going to the script for one of the LFB frontrunners in ESBVA-LM. They followed up their opening day loss in EuroLeague Women with a second domestic defeat as they lost 73-64 at Flammes Basket Carolo.

Amel Bouderra starred in the victory with 15 points and 6 assists for the home side, while Alicia DeVaughn collected 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Another EuroLeague Women club almost lost to EuroCup Women opponents, but Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration held on to dig out a tight 52-47 win against Cavigal Nice Basket 06 - thanks mainly to a big triple from Gaelle Skrela during crunch time. Nantes Reze did suffer a loss though, as they were beaten 77-68 at Tarbes.
Elsewhere, Kyla Alexander and Johannah Leedham shared 24 points for Tango Bourges Basket as they won 69-58 at Hainaut, with Basket Landes prevailing 65-54 at UFAB-49 Angers as Celine Dumerc netted 16 points from a 70 percent shooting display.
WILLIAMS SHOWS TALENT FOR NADEZHDA
New signing Elizabeth Williams produced one of her most productive offerings so far in a Nadezhda vest when accumulating a smooth 17 points as the Orenburg club shot down Chevakata 67-44.
Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje slumped to a fourth loss in their opening six games as they were beaten 47-42 at Dynamo Novosibirsk in a defensively dominated encounter. Tamara Tatham had a massive 16 points and 17 boards for the hosts and her team-mate Latoya Williams had a similarly impressive 15 points and 19 rebounds.
A summer departure from Vidnoje in Maria Vadeeva is lighting it up at the still flawless Dynamo Kursk as she registered 18 points and 12 rebounds in an 85-47 home victory against Dynamo Moscow.
The only other club still unbeaten are UMMC and they benefitted from a 17-point haul from Brittney Griner who did the business in her new game shoes, as the giants stormed past MBA Moscow 84-41 as WNBA champion, Evegenia Belyakova returned to the line-up.
MORE WOE FOR RAGUSA
Passalacqua Ragusa are still misfiring in the Italian League after they dropped to an unpalatable 2-3 record after going down 67-61 at Fila San Martino, despite 21 points from Astou Ndour.
Umana Reyer Venezia eased to victory by locking down Umbertide 63-43, while Beretta Famila Schio racked up an 83-48 triumph against Torino as five players reached double-digits - led by Georgia Sottana with 15 points.
ELSEWHERE IN EUROPE
Two seasons ago when Spar CityLift Girona won their maiden Liga Femenina title, they opened the season with six wins. Now they have an even better 7-0 record after a 73-64 success at Cref Hola which was fuelled by 22 points and 11 rebounds by Ifunanya Ibekwe. Main rivals Avenida maintained the pressure by beating Star Center-Uno Ferrol 87-63.
Aluinvent Miskolc have had a lean time of late, but they might be ready to finally get their campaign rolling after a comprehensive 91-61 Hungarian League success at BEAC Ujbuda. Tina Jovanovic erupted for 31 points and Louella Tomlinson added 26 points and 10 boards.
Finally in the German DBBL, Emmanuella Mayombo fired 18 points for Rutronik Stars Keltern as they beat Eisvogel USC Freiburg 69-55, while Katharina Fikiel had 11 points and 11 rebounds for TSV 1880 Wasserburg in a 66-59 victory against Herner TC.
