Kovacik appointed head coach of Nadezhda

ORENBURG (EuroLeague Women) - Maros Kovacik has been installed as head coach of Nadezhda Orenburg Region for the 2017-18 season.

The play-caller took over the reins at struggling CCC Polkowice midway through the last EuroLeague Women season and domestically, he led them from eighth spot in the Polish League when he joined, to a creditable third place finish in the BLK Play-Offs.

He has previously made history in EuroLeague Women at Good Angels Kosice where he took them to the last four of the tournament.

Kovacik also brings experience at international level, having coached Slovak Republic at the FIBA EuroBasket Women Final Round in 2015, unexpectedly taking his country to the brink of the Quarter-Finals.

He then guided Slovak Republic back to the Final Round, but won't be overseeing proceedings at this year's edition next month after Marian Svoboda was given the job.

Kovacik takes over from Roberto Iniguez at Nadezhda with his Spanish predecessor having recorded their most successful EuroLeague Women season ever in 2015-16, when he took them all the way to the Final in Istanbul.
