Historic home delight for newcomers Hatay

ANTAKYA (EuroLeague Women) – Hatay BSB are celebrating an historic first home victory in EuroLeague Women after they outlasted Uniqa Sopron 74-66 in the only game to take place on Thursday night.

Just eight days after collecting their maiden success in the competition at CCC Polkowice, the Turkish side took the distinction of winning the last EuroLeague Women game of 2016.

It was some sharp perimeter shooting from Bahar Ozturk which laid the foundation for the win as she racked up 20 points, while Courtney Paris did the business in the paint with a smart double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds.

There had been little between the sides for much of the contest, but Hatay posted a strong second-half to eventually shrug off their opponents – helped by a vital 10-4 run in the middle of the final quarter.

Sopron head back to Hungary with a 3-3 record after star guard Yvonne Turner was unable to find a basket from the field all night – although she did hand out 11 assists.
