EuroLeague Women: Wednesday round-up

KRAKOW (EuroLeague Women) - Wisla Can-Pack were denied their first Regular Season win after Famila Schio came from as many as 12 points down to claim a 75-76 success on the road.

The home side had started brightly in search of a maiden victory in Group A having opened up a 21-9 advantage in the opening period.

Ziomara Morrison shot 9-of-13 from the floor and finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds in the contest with her final basket putting her side up by one in the final minute.

However, they were unable to hang on and Giorgia Sottana held her nerve from the line to sink the go-ahead free-throws as Schio secured their second win behind 19 points and 10 rebounds from Isabelle Yacoubou.

ESBVA-LM got their campaign up and running in style with a first win as they took down the previously unbeaten Perfumerias Avienda 69-68.

Valeriane Ayayi top-scored with 17 points as the French side made a stunning 21-0 start before the visitors launched a fightback that ultimately fell short to mark the end of their perfect start.

ZVVZ USK Prague made it three wins from three after holding off a second-half fightback from Mersin to win 69-75 away from home with 20 points and 8 rebounds from Sonja Petrovic.

Last week, Laia Palau reached the magnificent milestone of 1,000 assists in the competition and continued to add to her astonishing tally with 13 more in the win for Prague.

Another Spaniard was in fine passing form with Alba Torrens handing out 9 assists to go with 14 points to help propel UMMC Ekaterinburg to a 64-73 victory at Hatay BB with Brittney Griner top-scoring with 19 points.

"It was an important game for us and we knew that we must show our best efforts in Hatay to win because they play hard," said Torrens.

"All the away games are hard in EuroLeague Women so this is a really important win for us."

Meanwhile, the unbeaten start of Bourges Basket came to an end despite 19 points and 13 rebounds from Clarissa Dos Santos as last season’s EuroCup Women champions were beaten 77-69 by Uniqa Sopron

Yvonne Turner starred with 21 points and also had 8 assists as the home side came from behind to put up 31 points in the fourth to power to victory.

There was a big double-double from Nnemkadi Ogwumike in Lattes as she posted 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead Dynamo Kursk to a convincing 50-88 win away at BLMA, while Nadezhda were equally ruthless in their 46-70 win over CCC Polkowice.
