Drama as Fenerbahce topple Praha in OT, Polkowice edge Valencia

MUNICH (Germany) - In what proved a gripping EuroLeague Women night, Fenerbahce Alagoz Holding took an overtime win against fellow heavyweights ZVVZ USK Praha, while BC Polkowice won another tight one.

Bouncing back from a double-digit deficit, Fenerbahce emerged from a tough spot and came alive in the last quarter and overtime to see off ZVVZ USK Praha 82-72. They wrapped up a third straight win, while in contrast, their Czech opponents suffered successive losses to leave each club 3-2 for the season in Group A.

Alina Iagupova stood out with 25 points, 5 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds and critically Fenerbahce outscored their rivals 26-0 in bench scoring. Praha welcomed the influential Brionna Jones back for her first outing of the campaign and she dropped 23 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals, with teammate Alyssa Thomas contributing 21 points and 13 rebounds.

BC Polkowice continued their fine run by coming out on top 76-73 in a similarly dramatic encounter at home to Valencia Basket Club. Ahead for much of the game, a 17-4 start to the last period by the visitors saw the momentum draining away from Polkowice, but they recovered down the stretch to get a victory that now sees them topping Group A with an impressive 4-1 record.

They were helped by the return to the club of the popular Erica Wheeler who made a big shot inside the last two minutes to get the home team rolling again. The deal was sealed from the free-throw line by Klaudia Gertchen and also Artemis Spanou, who racked up 17 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. However, it was a massive 18 points and 13 boards from Steph Mavunga that led Polkowice, while Lauren Cox netted 18 points for the losing side.

Tango Bourges Basket improved to 3-2 with a comfortable 83-62 home court triumph against Atomeromu KSC Szekszard. Always on the front foot, Bourges never had cause to look back after a 14-4 run either side of the first and second quarter break put them on the path to the win.

Canadian forward Kayla Alexander recorded her most productive game of the season so far with an eye-catching 15 points and 17 rebounds, while Yvonne Anderson scored 23. Ruth Hebard was the top performer for Szekszard with 15 ponts and 11 boards.

Olympiacos SFP are still searching for their first success of the season after being undone 79-63 at home to Virtus Segafredo Bologna who doubled their win tally with the road victory. It was founded on a superb second half for the Italians who snapped the contest open with a 21-10 third period.

Virtus controlled the glass and had Kitija Laksa weighing in with 18 points and a career high 14 boards, while Cecilia Zandalasini put on a show in the backcourt with her own double-double of 11 points and 10 assists alongside 9 rebounds. Anna Stamolamprou and Megan Gustafson shared 42 points in defeat.
