Final Four MVP Williams: ''I am still in shock''

ISTANBUL (Turkey) - It was a double celebration for Gabby Williams after she added to the joy of Sopron Basket's first ever EuroLeague Women title by being named the Final Four MVP.

The French national team ace was confirmed as the winner of the accolade after being the centerpiece for her team as they completed their historic 60-55 triumph in Istanbul.

The defense she played was epic in the title game, silencing the main offensive weapons in the Fenerbahce Safiport ranks. That came off the back of a nice cameo in the Semi-Finals against Perfumerias Avenida, as Williams averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game across the weekend.

"I am still in shock," smiled Williams.

"This is so fun. It is so unbelievable. It just feels really, really good right now. To be so focused on every possession is quite something and it's something none of us are ever going to forget."

Williams also laughed as she reflected on securing Sopron a first title in front of the passionate Fenerbahce Safiport fans. Instead of shrinking and being intimidated by the intense atmosphere, she claimed that the winning side reveled in the challenge.

"When they were all booing at the start when we came out, we just smiled at each other and I knew we had this," she revealed.

"I actually wanted Fenerbahce to win their Semi-Final, because I wanted to play in that kind of environment - it's what we live for as athletes.

"I have played in front of maybe some bigger crowds in the States, but they're not Turkish and the atmosphere is never like this was. We enjoyed the challenge of trying to silence them and it only motivated us more," concluded Williams.
