UMMC Ekaterinburg three-peat to capture sixth EuroLeague Women title

ISTANBUL (Turkey) - The reign of UMMC Ekaterinburg continues in EuroLeague Women, with the defending back-to-back champions from Russia conquering their sixth title after crowning a perfect 2020-21 campaign at the Final Four in Istanbul.

Having also lifted the trophy in 2018 and 2019, the Miguel Mendez-coached side topped Perfumerias Avenida 78-68 at the Volkswagen Arena on Sunday for their third consecutive EuroLeague Women triumph.

Leading all clubs in the modern EuroLeague Women era with six titles, UMMC have set themselves apart as second on the all-time list behind 18-time winners and record-holders TTT Riga.

The three-peat has landed them in the elite company of TTT Riga, A.S. Vincenza and Sparta&K Moscow Region as the only clubs to win the competition at least three times in a row.

Outstanding in the Semi-Final win against Fenerbahce Oznur Kablo and having collected 12 points and 6 rebounds, Breanna Stewart was named MVP of the Final Four with averages of 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in the season-ending tournament.

The 2021 success with UMMC was the sixth title for Alba Torrens, who tied the modern EuroLeague Women record, previously shared by Diana Taurasi and Natalia Vieru.

Earlier in the day, Final Four hosts Fenerbahce Oznur Kablo secured a third-place finish with a 64-58 victory against Sopron Basket.
