Galatasaray and Izmit Belediyespor will not take part in December hubs of EuroLeague Women

MUNICH (Germany) - Galatasaray and Izmit Belediyespor will not participate in the first EuroLeague Women Regular Season hubs, taking place from December 1-4, 2020.

FIBA Regional Office Europe was informed by the respective clubs about critical COVID-19-related disruptions to their preparations, which will prevent the teams from travelling and taking part in their respective bubbles.

Izmit Belediyespor were set to compete in the Group A tournament in Istanbul, Turkey, while Galatasaray were scheduled to play in the Group D tournament in Sopron, Hungary.

As a result the following decisions have been taken:

  • The games of Izmit Belediyespor will not be played as scheduled during this hub and the status of these games will be decided by the relevant disciplinary bodies at a later stage.
  • The games of Galatasaray will not be played as scheduled during this hub and the status of these games will be decided by the relevant disciplinary bodies at a later stage.

In order to protect the health and guarantee the safety of players, coaches and officials, as well as to safeguard a fair competition, and to properly organize game operations, all other phases of the competition, including the Quarter-Finals and the Final Four, will also be conducted in single venue hubs.

FIBA Regional Office Europe will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in Europe on a daily basis and communicate further updates regarding EuroLeague Women when necessary.
