Fenerbahce Oznur Kablo, Sopron Basket leap towards the Final Four

SOPRON / SALAMANCA (Hungary / Spain) - Fenerbahce Oznur Kablo and Sopron Basket proved to be the big winners during the Quarter-Finals Game 1 as both took a major stride towards the Final Four.

Fenerbahce Oznur Kablo produced a dominant second half against Istanbul city rivals Galatasaray in Salamanca, Spain as they registered a convincing 91-74 victory to take control of the tie.

The big difference-maker was Alina Iagupova who showed out with a stellar 32 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds. German Satou Sabally played the cameo with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while Anete Steinberga led Galatasaray with a creditable 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Sopron Basket are yet to lose this season in the competition and they are also in a great position to make Final Four after they blasted away LDLC ASVEL Feminin 94-66 on their home floor in Sopron. The Hungarians were unstoppable either side of half-time as they began to take the game away from their opponents who faded worryingly quickly after a bright opening.

It was a familiar story as Gabby Williams and Jelena Brooks again showed her teeth for Sopron with 24 and 19 points respectively. There was also an important strong shooting effort from Tina Krajisnik who contributed 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Playing in Hungary too, UMMC Ekaterinburg are also well placed for their usual Final Four slot after they defeated Dynamo Kursk 80-67. Although things could have been even better for the tournament favorites who had led 35-15 after the opening quarter.

Dynamo Kursk could not find an answer to the towering Brittney Griner, who converted 28 points in an excellent shooting performance for UMMC, as well as pulling down 6 rebounds. Olga Frolkina had her best game of the season with 18 points in defeat.

Meanwhile, hub host Perfumerias Avenida hold an advantage against Spar Girona after they claimed a 74-66 win. Although they had led by as many as 18 points earlier in the game and a late surge by Girona may well mean that their rivals have wrestled away some momentum for Friday.  Julia Reisingerova stood out for Spar Girona with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while opposing center Nikolina Milic also impressed with 13 points and 8 boards.
