What were the five most impressive summer signings and who will be the most impactful?

MUNICH (Germany) - We've asked our women's specialist Paul Nilsen to pick out five of the most impressive summer signings in EuroLeague Women and we want to know who you think will make the biggest impact.

Here are the five candidates and you can make your choice below via our interactive fan vote.

Sonja Petrovic – Spar Citylift Girona

This was the one summer transfer that made me literally say "wow" out loud when news broke. For Girona to take  new footsteps in the competition with a EuroLeague Women star and some might say legend because of her amazing record of competing at Final Four, is amazing. . While the debut of Petrovic for Girona will be delayed slightly for a few weeks due to her recovery from some knee surgery, it will be worth the wait for the fans. The Serbian ace brings leadership, scoring, smarts, clutch and if I am brutally honest, I would give my vote to Sonja as a fan.  The other interesting dynamic will be how she influences a 'smaller club' who don't have a tradition in the competition as a Dynamo Kursk for example - but who are obviously very ambitious and a club very much on the rise.

DeWanna Bonner – Dynamo Kursk

While nobody can replace the best player in the world aka Breanna Stewart, you have to be impressed with Dynamo Kursk swooping for another leading WNBA star like Bonner. I get a sense that she is ready to get back near the EuroLeague Women levels she showed in 2016 when she was the standout player in the competition and almost single-handedly took Nadezhda to the title. There are two interesting things about this summer move and it is a double-reunion, with Bonner back on Russian soil again and also linking back up with Roberto Iniguez who was her play-caller in Orenburg. That relationship was outstanding last time around and I believe Bonner can potentially inspire Dynamo Kursk to another Final Four place.

Allie Quigley - UMMC Ekaterinburg

While I hear everybody wondering why UMMC Ekaterinburg could possibly need another top level player, the one thing that you need to do when building a dynasty and gunning for unprecedented success is to not become complacent. When I first heard that Quigley was heading to Ekaterinburg my reaction was "ouch". Mainly because any hopes that other clubs had about UMMC possibly getting lazy and losing their crown were probably dispelled in that moment. The signing of Quigley shows they remain determined to stay on the top and won't take their foot off the gas. The guard adds a massive offensive punch, is a momentum shifter and game winner, has great experience and will fit in perfectly.

Marine Johannes – LDLC Asvel Feminin

This transfer was announced more like late Spring rather than summer and it certainly seems like a lifetime ago when I first got super-excited about the switch that Johannes was about to make. The reason for that is not solely because of a new chapter and challenge for the guard and her own skills, but because of the backcourt partnership she will now form with Belgian playmaker, Julie Allemand. With a WNBA rookie season under her belt and new experiences to call upon, I expect that Johannes will be more mature in her outlook, but will hopefully keep stuffing the highlights reel. The only possible fly in the ointment is whether she will have enough gas in he tank because between Bourges, France, New York Liberty and Lyon, she has played almost non-stop of late. Although the fact she was MVP at the LFB opening weekend as she led Lyon to success against her ex-employers shows she is still riding on a high gear!

Ana Dabovic – Bourges Basket

Perhaps my most controversial choice, I have included Dabovic because whe Bourges were left rocked by the loss of Johannes, I sat down with a piece of paper during the summer and wondered who they could get that would be any kind of replacement. An 'X-factor', a scorer, a creator, a game-winner and an entertainer who knows how to get it done at this level. Dabovic was top of my list. There will always be question marks around the consistency at times of the Serbian guard, but I am excited by her having a full season again in EuroLeague Women and hope that by also competing in the highly-rated French League, she will show her skills in the best possible way. Although I am disappointed Bourges have avoided her former club BLMA and she won't go up against her predecessor Johannes - well, at least until the post season if they make it.
