Sopron get rolling and TTT Riga pull off a stunning road win

MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) - Both Sopron Basket and TTT Riga bounced back from week one losses to get rolling with their first wins of the new EuroLeague Women season.

Having only just missed out on the considerable scalp of Dynamo Kursk last week, the dangerous TTT Riga produced arguably the result of the week after attaining an exciting 74-77 road win against Hatay.

The impressive triumph was built around another all-action effort from Sheylani Peddy as she produced 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals, with Kate Kreslina returning a pivotal 20-point tally for the visitors.

The precious first win for Sopron came as they put their foot on the gas either side of the interval to snap open their contest with Olympiacos and stroll to an 85-69 win.  Yvonne Turner had a team-high 19 points and was one of five players in double figures.

Candice Dupree was on fire as she enjoyed a stellar shooting night to ensure Sopron moved to 1-1, with head coach Roberto Iniguez delighted to get the victory.

He said: "Olympiacos showed that they never give up and they have character - lots of success is still ahead of them.

"For us, the most important thing was the win. Our group is well-balanced, and teams have to work very hard for each victory. Aside from Kursk, every team is on the same level, so all wins will have huge meaning," reiterated Iniguez.

Famila Schio are now under pressure after slumping 50-69 at home to the unbeaten ZVVZ USK Prague, which means the Italians find themselves 0-2. A double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds from Marija Rezan was the pick for Prague, along with Valeriane Ayayi and Alyssa Thomas who also impressed.

Earlier in the day, UMMC Ekaterinburg had to work hard to see off a pesky CCC Polkowice in a 69-54 victory. Kayla McBride posted 20 points and 7 assists, with Emma Meesseman weighing in with a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards.

"It was the first EuroLeague Women home game of the season for us and we felt a little out of control," confessed McBride afterwards.

"I was really impressed with our defense and we were able to make stops in a row, which was really good.

"Everybody knows we can score and we can play defense at a high level, so we are proud of our effort and proud of our fans," she concluded.
