Avenida win overtime thriller and Petrovic goes near perfect

MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) – There was a major fiesta in Salamanca as local favorites Perfumerias Avenida completed a sensational overtime success against Fenerbahce.

Continuing their good run on home soil against the Turkish juggernauts, Avenida made up for last week's loss at Hatay to get off the mark at the second attempt and ride their way to an 88-82 overtime win that will be remembered for a long time to come.

In a dramatic and absorbing roller-coaster, Silvia Dominguez tied things up at the end of regulation and finished with 9 points and 8 assists.

Angelica Robinson was superb with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, with Krisi Givens dropping 18 points. Meanwhile Anastasiya Verameyenka and Cecilia Zandalasini combined for 40 points in defeat.

Earlier in the day, a classic display from Sonja Petrovic paced Dynamo Kursk to an 83-62 home win against Carolo Basket. The Serbian ace dropped 23 points and went a superb 8-of-9 from the field, while also amassing 11 rebounds and 3 assists.

"The result doesn‘t show that the game was very tough – but it was,“ insisted Petrovic afterwards.

"The coach warned us and we were ready and focused. In general, I was satisfied with the game,“ she added.

Kursk also handed a debut to recent signing and USA center, Tina Charles and moved to 2-0, while inflicting a first ever Regular Season loss on their opponents.

Bourges Basket are celebrating a sweet start to the new season as they went 2-0 with a 74-59 win against Nadezhda at Le Prado - thanks mainly to a strong finish to the first half which shifted the momentum

Canadian forward Katherine Plouffe had a solid 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, her compatriot Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe had 13 points, while Marine Johannes garnered a team-high 18 points.

In the cross-border derby between Castors Braine and ESBVA-LM in Charleroi, it was the visitors who eventually prevailed 49-51 as they bounced back from their week one mauling against reigning champions UMMC Ekaterinburg. Angela Bjorklund fired 15 points for the triumphant French side.
