Taurasi reached the landmark with her fourth score from downtown, while her former UMMC Ekaterinburg colleague, Brittney Griner caught fire too. She racked up 29 points and 10 boards in the contest - as well as some trademark swats.
The first few days of the season have also thrown up many other talking points – not least Los Angeles Sparks shrugging off the absence of Candace Parker to claim a thrilling 77-76 victory against reigning champions, Minnesota Lynx in a repeat of the 2017 Finals.
Chelsea Gray hit a dramatic game-winner for the Sparks and her decisive intervention was underpinned by 19 points and 9 rebounds from Dynamo Kursk forward, Nneka Ogwumike.
Meanwhile, fans reveled in the return of Chiney Ogwumike, who played her first WNBA minutes in more than two years in a staggering 101-65 success for Connecticut Sun.
