Polkowice and BLMA get rolling while Fenerbahce make a major statement

POLKOWICE (EuroLeague Women) - CCC Polkowice and BLMA are off the mark after taking their opening wins of the EuroLeague Women season, as Fenerbahce underlined their title potential.

Having lost a number of close games to fall to 0-3, the pressure was on George Dikeoulakos and his CCC Polkowice team, but they managed to belatedly get rolling by slipping past Tango Bourges Basket 71-66. Artemis Spanou epitomized the spirit shown by the Polish side as she played some great defense and added 11 points and 9 rebounds.

Meanwhile, BLMA are breathing a sigh of relief as they relied on a smart 15 points and 6 assists from Italian guard Giorgia Sottana to outlast Nadezhda 76-69.

There was high drama in Ekaterinburg as two juggernauts collided, with home side UMMC coming off worse as they were taken down by an Ana Dabovic-inspired Fenerbahce 73-71. The Serbian scored 21 points and hit what proved to be the game-winner.

Yakin Dogu Universitesi also did the business in the clutch, as Courtney Vandersloot continued her stunning form with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and the pivotal play in a 67-62 win at the previously undefeated Perfumerias Avenida.

There was also a thrilling conclusion in Krakow, as Beretta Famila Schio made it three wins in a row by denying Wisla Can-Pack their first victory. The Italians won 74-72 as Jolene Anderson struck a buzzer-beater.

Galatasaray made it a good night for the Turkish teams as they posted a comeback 72-71 triumph at Castors Braine who are still without a victory to their name. Gintare Petronyte was a colossus with 29 points and 11 boards.

Title holders Dynamo Kursk amassed the biggest tally of the season as they showcased their firepower with a massive 109-88 overrunning of ZVVZ USK Prague, whilst Sopron Basket rounded out the action, beating ESBVA-LM 83-73 on the road.
