Fenerbahce continue their momentum and UMMC get back on track

ISTANBUL (EuroLeague Women) - Fenerbahce are continuing to underline their EuroLeague Women credentials, while UMMC Ekaterinburg stopped the rot on Wednesday night.

Fenerbahce made it three wins in succession and moved to 4-1 for the season after they outlasted Perfumerias Avenida 68-56.

They were led by 13 points and 7 rebounds from Anastasiya Verameyeka, whilst they also had the bonus of finally welcoming debutante, Aerial Powers.

Yakin Dogu Universitesi were beaten by Fenerbahce last Sunday in domestic action, but they bounced back to storm past the winless Wisla Ca-Pack 87-59 as Jantel Lavender shot the lights out for 20 points, also landing a double-double with 10 boards.

Galatasaray couldn't quite make it a treble for the Istanbul-based teams as they were pipped 72-67 by CCC Polkowice. Without backcourt leaders Isil Alben and Allie Quigley, the hosts struggled to keep pace with their opponents who were led by 15 points from Bria Holmes.

"It was a hard fought game for both sides," mused CCC Polkowice center, Temi Fagbenle.

"We knew that Galatasaray would not give up, so we had to be mentally prepared for that. I'm proud of our team for sticking together against adversity and pulling out this away win."

UMMC Ekaterinburg were under pressure at 2-2 and without Diana Taurasi heading to Orenburg, but emerged victorious against Nadezhda with a 64-54 success as Nika Baric stood out with 14 points.

Elsewhere, Sopron Basket swept past Castors Braine 83-59 as Crystal Langhorne went 7-of-8 from the field for 18 points.

There was another towering performance from Amanda Zahui who inspired ZVVZ USK Prague in an 88-51 triumph against ESBVA-LM as the Swedish ace garnered 27 points and 11 rebounds.

Finally, reigning champions Dynamo Kursk had to work hard to protect their perfect record at Bourges Basket, with the visitors only prevailing after erupting in the last couple of minutes as they rode out 76-65 winners. Angel McCoughtry recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds for the victorious visitors.
