First ever Regular Season wins make it a historical night for quartet

MUNICH (Germany) - There was a special slice of history for four EuroCup Women clubs on Thursday night as they all celebrated taking Regular Season wins for the first time.

London Lions will always remember their trip to reigning German champions Rutronik Stars Keltern as the British visitors claimed a maiden success with an exciting 81-78 win.


Kennedy Leonard led the way with 21 points and 6 assists, while the experienced Johannah Leedham-Warner scored a clutch bucket.

A strong team effort propelled Nesibe Aydin past Bellona Kayseri 84-57 with four players into double-figures and Alaina Coates standing out with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Brooque Williams responded with 26 points.

Martina Fassina caught fire for Pszczolka Polski Cukier AZS UMCS Lublin as they strode past Polish rivals InvestInTheWest Enea Gorzow 79-59. The Italian had 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists, with Courtney Hurt terrific in defeat with a game-high 24 points.

There was also a memorable victory for Duran Maquinaria Ensino who slide past Basket Namur Capitale 57-48. Portuguese forward Sofia Silva had 12 points and 9 boards, with Marina Lizarazu adding 14 points.

Of those teams with previous pedigree, there were two notable wins from those expected to make a deep run, not least, reigning champions Valencia BC. They tipped off their title defense with a 67-59 victory in Belgium against Kangoeroes Basket as Angela Salvadores and Bec Allen added 13 and 12 points respectively for the Spanish giants.

CBK Mersin Yenisehir Bld also showed their credentials as potential title winners as they tipped off with a commanding 78-55 win at Horizont. Shavonte Zellous erupted for 30 points, while Kristine Anigwe had 15 points and as many rebounds. The home side could not get near their opponents despite 13 points and 12 boards from Anastasiya Verameyenka.

Elsewhere, KKZ CZ of Serbia almost pulled off a surprise as they pushed the visiting BC Nadezhda hard before falling 92-86. Adaorda Elonu shot the lights out for 23 points after going 10 of 12 from the field, while Markeisha Gatling had an impressive 26 points and 9 boards.

Hatayspor breezed past WBC Enisey 100-76 after some spectacular displays, with Aaryn Ellenberg-Wiley scoring 30 points, Kalania Brown dropping 37 points and Bahar Caglar Okten completing a 15 point and 12 rebound double-double.

Haukar found life tough against visiting Villeneuve d'Ascq LM as the French side jumped out from the start and overwhelmed the Islanders 84-41, with Sandra Ygueravide pulling the strings with 13 points and 8 assists.

Ambitious Ukrainian side BC Prometey got off to a winning start as Ariel Atkins showed her quality by netting 26 points in an 86-64 success against ACS Sepsi SIC. Tetiana Yurkevichus was a colossus on the glass with 16 rebounds.

Lointek Gernika boosted their conifdence that they can progress from the Regular Season with a 65-60 road success at Virtus Segafredo Bologna. Tinara Moore had a vital 12 points and 10 rebounds as the visitors also dominated on the glass.

Orman Genclik escaped from Russian soil with a nail-biting 76-74 triumph at Nika Syktyvkar as Danielle Robinson showed out with 26 points and 6 assists.

A stunning performance from Marielle Giround was behind an impressive 100-81 win for BCF Elfic Fribourg against Banco Sardegna Sassari. The Swiss star put up 31 points and 12 rebounds, while trhere were 12 assists from Nancy Fora and 22 points from Abigail Fogg.

A huge last quarter from Castors Braine provided the platform for a 75-58 win at Zabiny Brno as well as a smart 14 points and 9 rebounds from Canadian Quinn Dornstauder.

Finally, the atmosphere was intense at Panathinaikos AC but the home side were beaten 67-64 by the visiting BC Polkowice. Stephanie Mavunga was a difference-maker with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
