Tango Bourges claim second EuroCup Women trophy in six years

BOURGES (France) - Tango Bourges defeated Umana Reyer 74-38 on Thursday night to be proclaimed EuroCup Women 2021-22 champions on their home court, repeating their 2016 title success.

The hosts of the Final Four led from start to finish and always by double digits in the second half, to the delight of a near-capacity crowd of 4,300 at the Palais des Sports du Prado.

Iliana Rupert led all scorers with 25 points and added a game-high 8 rebounds, while the French side also got big contributions from Laetitia Guapo and Kristen Mann, who both had 10 points off the bench.

Yvonne Anderson scored a team-high 12 points in a losing effort for Reyer, who have now reached the Final of the competition on three occasions without ever lifting the trophy,

The 20-year-old Rupert was voted Final Four MVP as she impressed the accredited media at the event with her dominant performances, especially in the Final.  The French center averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 steals at the Final Four. 

In the Third-Place Game earlier on Thursday, Galatasaray cruised to a 75-67 victory over CBK Mersin Yenisehir Bld in an all-Turkish clash. Kaela Davis led the Istanbul side with 17 points and 8 rebounds while Kelsey Plum came up with 16 points, 8 boards and 7 assists.

This year’s event in Bourges marked the second consecutive time the EuroCup Women season culminated in a Final Four tournament. In the 2021 event, in Hungary, Valencia Basket defeated Umana Reyer 82-81 in the Final.
