Who will claim the last qualification tickets in EuroCup Women?

MUNICH (Germany) - As we enter the last week of Regular Season action, who is going to extend their EuroCup Women stay and make it to the next phases of the competition?

There are still plenty of tickets on offer, with the top two teams in each group and the two top-ranked third-placed teams from each of the conferences advancing to the knockout stages. The top eight ranked teams from the Regular Season will automatically be placed in the Round of 16.

Here's what's on the line in each respective group.

4 KPBR KP Brno 5 2 3 40.0 334 403 -69 66.8 80.6 7

This could be the most exciting group of all, since in addition to the permutations outline below, one scenario is that a four-team tie is still possible! If InvestInTheWest ENEA Gorzow and KP Brno both win, all four teams would be tied at 3-3, and the final standings would be determined by the Official Basketball Rules, with overall point differential being the primary deciding factor. Ramla and KP Brno have momentum after wins last week but one of them is guaranteed a loss since they will meet. You might need your calculators ready for this group!

Wednesday, December 4
KP Brno v Ramla (Previous Meeting: Ramla won 80-63)

Thursday, December 5
Botas v InvestInTheWest ENEA Gorzow (Previous Meeting: Gorzow won 72-67)

Permutations

  • Botas SK would secure a top-2 finish in the group with a win;
    • A win would guarantee Botas SK first place in the group;
  • Ramla would secure a top-2 finish in the group with a win;
    • If they lose, Ramla can still secure a top-2 finish if they secure head-to-head advantage against KP Brno and Botas SK beat Gorzow;
  • InvestInTheWest ENEA Gorzow would secure a top-2 finish in the group with a win if Ramla beat KP Brno;
  • KP Brno would secure a top-2 finish in the group with a win if they secure the head-to-head tie-breaker against Ramla and Botas SK also win.

In addition to the above scenarios, a four-team tie is still possible in Group A.If InvestInTheWest ENEA Gorzow and KP Brno both win, all four teams would be tied at 3-3, and the final standings would be determined by the Official Basketball Rules, with overall point differential being the primary factor.

This group is all about Besiktas TRC Insaat trying to save their campaign and taking one of the precious Third Place tickets. They will be favorites to get a convincing win against Prishtina, but they need to recover from a big loss last week when only Nina Bogicevic and Yvonne Anderson did themselves justice against MBA Moscow.

4 A3B A3 Basket Umea 5 0 5 0 335 450 -115 67 90 5

It's looking like the two home teams this week are locked onto the top two spots. But the underdogs A3 Basket Umea will be desperate to avoid a winless campaign and Maros Kovacik and CCC Polkowice might find complacency the biggest danger. The experience and class of veteran playmaker Miljana Bojovic in keeping them on track will be vital.  Meanwhile, Orman Genclik know that they need to show their power and depth against domestic rivals Bellona Kayseri who will know they are not necessarily having to rely on favors to progress, since a fourth win of the season would confirm them as one of the best third place teams at the very worst.

Wednesday, December 4
CCC Polkowice v A3 Basket Umea (Previous Meeting: CCC Polkowice won 91-66)
Orman Genclik v Bellona Kayseri Basketbol (Previous Meeting: Orman Genclik won 87-63)

Permutations

  • Orman Genclik would secure a top-2 finish in the group with a win or if CCC Polkowice lose;
  • CCC Polkowice would secure a top-2 finish in the group with a win or if Bellona Kayseri Basketbol lose;
  • Bellona Kayseri Basketbol would secure a top-2 finish in the group with a win if CCC Polkowice lose;
    • If Bellona Kayseri Basketbol and CCC Polkowice both win, it would force a three-way tie with Orman Genclik with the final standings determined by the Official Basketball Rules.
  • A3 Basket Umea are eliminated from contention.

Any team to finish the Regular Season with at least four wins is guaranteed to advance to the next phase at worst as one of the best third-placed teams in their conference. As a result, Orman Genclik are already qualified, while Bellona Kayseri Basketbol and CCC Polkowice would also advance with wins.

4 RUZO MBK Ruzomberok 5 0 5 0 315 384 -69 63 76.8 5

While Hatay and WBC Enisey are both guaranteed to progress, the top spot remains up for grabs and that will be a big battle like in the first meeting earlier in the season when Belgium national team forward Kyara Linskens starred in victory for the Russians. Meanwhile, Belarusian outfit Tsmoki-Minsk are clinging on to hopes of being one of the best third place teams in the conference and must win on the road at MBK Ruzomberok - something that will be made easier by closing down Michaela Fekete who was the Fans' MVP last week!

4 LULE Lulea BBK 5 1 4 20.0 340 377 -37 68 75.4 6

This might appear to be one of the most uneventful groups with the top two places confirmed, but for a giant like Galatasaray, it is huge. It is not so long ago that the famous Turkish side were celebrating their second EuroCup Women title and now they are trying to fight for their lives, knowing they must beat group winners Artego Bydgoszcz to avoid a disappointing Regular Season exit. The first game was a classic and so fans will be excited for this second match-up.

4 OLIV Olivais F.C. 5 0 5 0 249 408 -159 49.8 81.6 5

It's looking done and dusted in this group, since even Gyor look an unlikely candidate to claim one of the best third place spots in the conference. They have suffered some huge losses during the campaign, including on the road against this week's opponents and group winners, Perfumerias Avenida. But they will want to at least make a statement if they progress or not, with an eye-catching success. A lack of production outside of the ever impressive Zofia Hruscakova and an injury to Hungary national team leader Krisztina Raksanyi which only saw her return last week have been their main issues.

4 NAMU Namur 5 0 5 0 265 365 -100 53 73 5

Only a capitulation at VBW CEKK Cegled will prevent Olympiacos from progressing. You could say that they have one foot and four toes in the next stage already courtesy of their massive home win against their group rivals. Bashaara Graves is in good form and should help them to see this through, while group winners Valencia and their fans can enjoy a post-game fiesta to close out the Regular Season, having already sealed first place.

4 PEAC PEAC-Pecs 5 0 5 0 274 399 -125 54.8 79.8 5

What a roller-coaster this has been for Aluinvent DVTK Miskolc so far. Having firstly lost narrowly in the EuroLeague Women Qualifiers, they had to stomach a buzzer-beating loss earlier in the EuroCup Women Regular Season on their home floor against Basket Landes. Possible redemption knocks at the door and they will advance and that is a huge motivation. Will WNBA champion Shatori Walker-Kimbrough bring it again? She will go up against French legend Celine Dumerc in the backcourt. As for Cadi La Seu, the newcomers are waiting for Miskolc to slip up and they could pounce if they beat Pecs. Although a warning shot was fired when Pecs beat Hungarian powerhouse Sopron Basket in the league this past weekend.

Wednesday, December 4

While the two primary tickets have been taken, the top spot is still to be decided and perhaps most importantly, Rutronik Stars Keltern are hoping they can take their best win of the campaign to make it as one of the best Third Place teams. That means beating the visiting KSC Szekszard and somehow, putting the chains on the free-scoring Ivana Dojkic.

It would arguably be a major surprise if French duo Roche Vendee BC and Carolo Basket don't advance. The pair played out a highly entertaining clash last week and will be favored to get the wins they need.

As a result, Carolo Basket are already qualified, while Roche Vandee Basket Club and BCF Elfic Fribourg would also advance with wins.
