Roundup: Studer shows promise, Basket Landes show potential

SZEKSZARD (EuroCup Women/EuroLeague Women) – Agnes Studer enhanced her reputation over the weekend by leading KSC Szekszard past Sopron Basket, while French title hopefuls Basket Landes flexed their collective muscles.

KSC Szekszard sink main rivals Sopron

In a repeat of last year's Championship Finals, KSC Szekszard came up against Sopron Basket and the home side drew first blood with a convincing 66-53 victory. It was guard duo Agnes Studer and Teja Oblak who did the business, with Studer racking up 18 points.

There was drama in the game between VBW CEKK Cegled and PINKK Pecsi 424 as the visiting team won 60-57 thanks to a triple by Tina Jakovina, while PEAC-Pecs prevailed 82-72 against Vasas, led by 18 points from Sarah Imovbioh.

Basket Landes make a statement

There was a big win for Basket Landes in the LFB as they took down fellow title hopefuls and EuroCup Women competitors, Carolo Basket 83-75.

The victorious side leaned on the backcourt combo of Celine Dumerc and Queralt Casas to get the job done, with the former adding 18 points and the latter 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

Bourges Basket are now the outright leaders and showcased their power with a brutal 86-55 success at another EuroLeague Women side, BLMA, who were without Ewelina Kobryn. Valeriane Ayayi and Katherine Plouffe shared 30 points and both missed out on double-doubles by a single rebound.

ESBVA-LM are still in a good place domestically as they improved their record by easing past Nantes 66-55 as Johanne Gomis landed 18 points.

Fenerbahce breathing a sigh of relief

The hot streak is continuing for Fenerbahce, although the Istanbul juggernauts were almost undone in a classic by Hatay, with the hosts sneaking an 86-84 triumph off the back of a game-winning 18 points from Ana Dabovic.

Galatasaray stopped their slump by overcoming Botas 70-63 as Gintare Petronyte poured in 26 points, while Yakin Dogu Universitesi returned to winning ways as they shot down Ormanspor 78-45 thanks mainly to 17 points and 12 boards from Jantel Lavender.

Besiktas claimed one of their best results of the season as they won 82-75 at Mersin with Erica Wheeler exploding for 25 points, while Istanbul Universitesi also grabbed a victory on their travels by beating Bornova Beckerspor 74-55 as Belgian guard Julie Vanloo corralled 17 points and 6 assists. There was disappointment in Kayseri though as home favorites Agu Spor were pipped 81-78 by Cukurova.

Zoll the heroine for Sleza Wroclaw in Poland

Sharnee Zoll delivered in the clutch for Sleza Wroclaw in their dramatic 71-69 win against Gorzow, with the guard also leading her team by posting 11 points and 11 assists. Meanwhile Serbian center Tijana Adjukovic weighed in with a sparkling 25 points and 10 rebounds.


CCC Polkowice are continuing their momentum as they outlasted Ostrovia 68-63 with Great Britain post player Temitope Fagbenle contributing 16 points. Energa Torun handed themselves a confidence boost ahead of a crunch week in EuroCup Women by rising past Basket 90 Gdynia 89-79 as Lauren Mansfield came alive with 25 points and 6 assists. Wisla CANPACK had Cheyenne Parker to thank for their 79-44 overwhelming win against Sosnowiec as the center added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Elsewhere in Europe

The dominant UMMC and Dynamo Kursk both rolled to wins in the Russian Premier League as Ekaterinburg beat Dynamo Moscow 85-70 on the road and Kursk swept past MBA Moscow 83-59, as Maria Vadeeva showed her strength with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Liga Femenina favorites Perfumerias Avenida had no trouble in dispatching Lointek Gernika Bizkaia 75-55 as Erika Souza registered 13 points and 10 rebounds.


Spar Citylift Girona are still in their slipstream as they dug out an 89-84 success at Nissan Al-Qazeres Extremadura.

The domestic struggles are continuing for Reyer Venezia in the Italian League after they fell to a third loss in a row by going down 75-74 in a nail-biter at Battipaglia. Famila Schio are still in control after Jolene Anderson plundered 20 points in a fine 90-70 win against Passalacqua Ragusa.
