Lyttle To Return As Torrens Misses Out

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 Qualifiers) - Former EuroBasket Women MVP Sancho Lyttle looks destined to return to action with Spain after being named on the roster for the EuroBasket Women 2017 qualifiers against Sweden and Finland.

Having missed out at the Final Round earlier this summer, the re-integration of the veteran forward was one of the two major headlines, with the other being the absence of her UMMC Ekaterinburg team-mate Alba Torrens, who has been ruled out by injury.

Torrens has not had enough time to get back on the court after suffering the blow at the SuperCup Women last month and confirmed, "We have done everything possible, but I'm still not recovered.

"I can only get to stop with the team in February and in these coming days, I will only be with them from a distance."

The other EuroBasket Women 2015 absentees are Leticia Romero, Laura Herrera and Nuria Martinez - otherwise it is the core of the team who competed in Hungary and Romania.

There is a recall for Cristina Ouvina, while also an opportunity for a number of teenage stars - including Laura Quevedo who starred at this year's FIBA U19 Women's World Championship in Russia and also won the U20 European Championship on home soil in Lanzarote alongside Nogaye Lo and Belen Arrojo who are also given the nod.

Spain's 13-player roster:

Belen Arrojo, Anna Cruz, Silvia Dominguez, Laura Gil, Sancho Lyttle, Astou Ndour, Laura Nicholls, Cristina Ouvina, Laia Palau, Lucila Pascua, Laura Quevedo, Nogaye Lo, Marta Xargay.
