Vadeeva's top performance not enough to save Russia's exit

PRAGUE / HRADEC KRALOVE (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017) - A performance worthy of an efficiency ranking of 34 from teen sensation Maria Vadeeva has not been enough to save Russia's fate at FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017.

Russia were bundled out of the tournament Tuesday night, six days earlier than any of the pundits had predicted, undone 62-58 by Greece, despite the best efforts of Vadeeva, who recorded 21 points and 18 rebounds. It accounted to an efficiency of 34 - the best of any players on Day 4.

Greece proved that there is no replacement for experience, Styliani Kaltsidou playing a major hand for the winning side, her 24 points and 9 rebounds enough to earn her a spot on the Top Performers team alongside Vadeeva.

Also repping the veterans was 37-year-old Zuzana Zirkova. The Slovak guard was, as always, wearing her heart on her sleeve, taking Slovak Republic to a famous 82-68 win over Ukraine.

Joining Vadeeva at the youth spectrum on the team is Cecilia Zandalasini. The irrepressible Italian put in another workmanlike 17-point, 9-rebound performance to assure her team claimed a 49-48 victory over Hungary.

Rounding out the team, thanks to another double-double is Anete Steinberga. The Latvian had 18 points and 11 rebounds as defending champions Serbia waved good-bye to Czech Republic.
