Go time for Greece after Keramidas chooses final roster

ATHENS (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017) - Greece head coach Kostas Keramidas has selected the 12 players who will lead their nation into a fiercely competitive FIBA EuroBasket Women Group D.

The play-caller knows his side will have to be at their best ahead of games against title frontrunners France, defending champions Serbia and dangerous dark horses, Slovenia.

Greece roster for FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017

Eleanna Christinaki Maria Fasoula  Styliani Kaltsidou Afroditi Kosma
Iouliti Lymoura Evanthia Maltsi Angeliki Nikolopoulou Aikaterina Sotiriou
Artemis Spanou Anna Spyridopoulou Evdokia Stamati Anna Stamolamprou

Despite being without some of their most experienced players in Zoi Dimitrakou, Olga Chatzinikolaou and Pelagia Papamichail, Keramidas can rely on former FIBA EuroBasket Women MVP Evanthia Maltsi - as well as other veteran stars in Styliani Kaltsidou, Iouliti Lymoura and Aikaterina Sotiriou.

Yet Greece have also continued to add to their new generation, with exciting guard Anna Stamolamprou alongside Maria Fasoula and Eleanna Christinaki who debuted two years ago.

Artemis Spanou will also be required to post a big tournament in the paint and cement her status as a leader for the team.

Arguably the only surprise omission came in the form of naturalized guard, Nikki Avery, who had been expected to re-enforce the backcourt options.

"We have arrived at our choice only days before the start of FIBA EuroBasket Women," mused Keramidas.

"I want to thank all the athletes who participated in the preparation and their offerings were really valuable all the time.

"Unfortunately we can only play 12 athletes and it was necessary to have to make a choice.

"But, the door of the national team is open in the future and players [who did not make it] will be given other opportunities as they worked at a very high level and I was very happy with the effort."
