Romania, Austria continue unbeaten starts; Denmark up and running

MUNICH (Germany) - Austria and Romania maintained their winning records in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Pre-Qualifiers, while Denmark and Switzerland were also victorious in Thursday's action.

Romania took control of Group B as they put together a strong second half display to defeat Albania 101-84 for their second win. Rolland Torok and Patrick Richard both netted 16 points, while Emanuel Cate posted 15 points without a miss to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double.

The visitors in Ploiesti had been searching for a 2-0 start of their own and led at half-time before a costly 11-0 spell for Romania in the third. Elvisi Dusha top scored with 20 points for Albania, who return to action on Sunday against Luxembourg.

Meanwhile, Austria made it three wins from three in Group A as Bogic Vujosevic and Thomas Klepeisz combined for 40 points in their 86-77 success away at Cyprus. They never trailed in the contest and the gap peaked at 19 points before a stronger finish from the home side.

The win keeps Austria in pole position at the halfway stage and they remain on the road on Sunday when they take on second-placed Switzerland. Marko Mladjan fired in 24 points to help lift Switzerland to a hard-fought 83-72 victory over Ireland in the battle to move to 2-1.

In Group C, Denmark claimed their first win after pulling away to beat Norway 84-68 behind five players in double figures. Jonas Zohore was one of the quintet and contributed a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, whilst also adding 4 assists.

The visitors had scored the first eight points of the contest, but fell behind late in the second and could not recover. Harald Frey and Chris-Ebou Ndow both scored 20+ points as Norway stay on the road with a trip to Mitrovica.

Kosovo and Luxembourg both resume their campaigns as part of the four-game schedule on Sunday.
