FIBA EuroBasket Dream Teams: Greece

MUNICH (Germany) - A blend of a glorious past and an exciting future, Greece has always been a name to consider when picking medal favorites for any major event. That goes for FIBA EuroBasket as well.

Greece had their crowning moment at home in 1987, climbing the top step of the podium in Belgrade in 2005 once again. The triumph in the Serbian capital 15 years ago was an electric one, with thrilling single digit wins over Israel, Russia and France in the knockout stage, before brushing aside Germany by 16 in the Final.

Greece have medalled at the event on three other occasions, with the last one coming in 2009. The 2000s and 2010s only affirmed Greece's position among the top nations, making it to the Quarter-Finals of FIBA EuroBasket in all but two Final Rounds this century.

Playing smart, tactical basketball with elite point guards has always been their trademark, but the switch to the new era of this sport should be an easy one for Greece with their offense now powered by none other than the reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.  And any time the forward puts on his favorite Hellas shirt, a sell-out crowd is guaranteed in the stands, all over the world.
