Antetokounmpo quartet: Greek Freak bolsters EuroBasket squad alongside brothers

ATHENS (Greece) - Greece have announced their preliminary 23-player roster for FIBA EuroBasket 2022 with the significant inclusion of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The two-time NBA MVP boosts the hopes of Greece winning a first medal at Europe's flagship event since their last title win in 2005. Antetokounmpo is joined in the squad by three brothers - Alex, Kostas and Thanasis - and is set for a second EuroBasket appearance after missing out on the last edition.


Nick Calathes, Kostas Papanikolaou and Kostas Sloukas are the most experienced players in the squad in terms of caps, while there are also a handful of players hoping to earn their senior debuts including Georgios Tanoulis, who impressed at the recent FIBA U20 European Championship.

Tyler Dorsey is included after recently returning to the national team with Georgios Papagiannis adding a sizable presence in the frontcourt after impressing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers.

Greece head to Milan to start their EuroBasket campaign with games against Croatia, Great Britain, Ukraine, Estonia and the Group C hosts Italy.

They also continue their push towards next year's World Cup with games against Serbia and Belgium in the August window to commence the Second Round.
