MUNICH (Germany) - Once considered a one-hit wonder, Germany used the new millennium to establish its national team as one of the continental juggernauts and a medal contender.

Germany's only medal in FIBA EuroBasket history came in 1993, when the country won gold in front of their own fans, but it was their sole run to the Semi-Finals all the way until 2001. A new era began with Dirk Nowitzki, who led the country to a fourth-place finish in Turkey, followed by a bronze medal winning performance at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2002, and a silver medal at the FIBA EuroBasket 2005.

Nowitzki's reign ended in 2015, with a disappointing 1-4 record in Berlin and an 18th place finish overall, but the new generation showed that Germany are no longer a one-man band. Dennis Schroder and Daniel Theis were the one-two punch as Die Mannschaft eliminated France in the Round of 16 and made a trip to the Quarter-Finals of the FIBA EuroBasket 2017.

Germany will look to take it two steps further in 2022, in hopes or repeating the scenery from 1993. The nation will host the next FIBA EuroBasket, with the Group Phase and the Knockout Phase taking place in Cologne and Berlin, respectively.
