Gameday 2 Round-Up: Benzing the hero for Germany, Musa wins it for Bosnia and Herzegovina

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) - Austria let slip a 17-point lead against Germany, whilst both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia claimed dramatic wins.

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) - Germany led for only 2:12 in Austria, but even that was enough to get a clutch 61-59 win over the hosts. Robin Benzing hit the game-winning shot with 30 second remaining and Maodo Lo's free throw set the final score in Schwechat on Saturday night.

Austria blew away a 17-point lead, which means they still have to wait to end the 47-year-long drought against their neighbours. Along with Benzing, who finished with only four points on the night, Germany have to celebrate another hero. Danilo Barthel came up big with six of his 12 points when it mattered most, and erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Austria retook the lead through Rasid Mahalbasic's hook shot with three minutes to go, but did not score again.

Mahalbasic finished with 18 points, as Austria are now down to 1-1. Germany are at the top of Group B with a 2-0 record. The Netherlands defeated Denmark 90-72 in the other group game, climbing to a 1-1 record.

Another thriller was in Group C, as Bosnia and Herzegovina found a hero in a 17-year-old Dzanan Musa. The youngster ran away and scored the final basket to give Bosnia and Herzegovina a 74-71 over Sweden in Sarajevo.

Musa finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, Jusuf Nurkic also had 19 points and grabbed another 15 rebounds to stay the Qualifiers top rebounder, and Mirza Teletovic finished with 12 points in his return to the national team. Bosnia and Herzegovina are at 1-1 in Group C, 0-1 Sweden will face 1-0 Russia on Wednesday.

In Group A, Belgium and Iceland are running away from Cyprus and Switzerland. Iceland's young star led the way in a 75-64 win over Cyprus. Martin Hermannsson had 21 points, six assists and six rebounds, and Haukur Palsson helped out with 19 points.

Belgium showed how to share the ball on the offensive end. Coach Eddy Casteels enjoyed having 11 different scorers in an 87-72 win away in Switzerland. Retin Obasohan scored 18 points, as Jean Salumu and Loic Schwartz combined for 28 points. Nice way to build up confidence before the all-important match-up against Iceland in Antwerp on Wednesday.

Poland led from start to finish in Belarus, and are planning to lead Group D from start to finish as well. They reached their second win in as many games with a 97-79 triumph in Belarus, with Maciej Lampe connecting on 10-of-13 shots from the field to gather 25 points and eight rebounds.

Portugal could not protect their home court against Estonia, who have climbed up to 2-0 in Group D with a 76-68 win in Arena Dolce Vita. Estonia now have to travel to Poland, to test the Polish streak in Lublin on Wednesday.

In Group E, Slovenia survived a late scare in Bulgaria. Goran Dragic was held scoreless in the first half, but scored 20 second-half points to give Slovenia an 83-78 win. Dragic also dished out nine assists, and Klemen Prepelic hit a well timed triple at the end to secure the victory for Slovenia, who are now at 2-0.

Ukraine joined Slovenia at 2-0 ahead of their rendezvous in Celje on Wednesday. Maksym Korniienko had 20 points in a 70-63 win in Kosovo, as Ukraine made good use of their quality bench play. Their second unit outscored the hosts 38-13, and Justin Doellman's 20 points were not enough for Kosovo to celebrate their first win of the Qualifiers.

Group G will be all about the game on Wednesday. Montenegro and Georgia enjoyed big wins so far and set up a firecracker in Tbilisi next week. Montenegro led by as many as 51 points against Albania in a 113-73 win, as Nikola Vucevic scored 19 points in just 15 minutes of play in Tirana. Bojan Dubljevic needed 16 minutes for his 16 points, and four more players were in double figures for coach Bogdan Tanjevic.

Georgia exploded from the starting blocks, scoring 30 first quarter points away at Slovak Republic. The lead kept growing until the final score of 94-63, as Michael Dixon organised the offence with 16 points and seven assists. Tornike Shengelia was the top scorer with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Hungary are in charge of Group G. David Vojvoda and Akos Keller combined for 32 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the field in an 89-64 win over Luxembourg in Sopron. Hungarian players enjoy the solitude at the top of the group, as they are the only team with a 2-0 record in Group G.

Great team win tonight against Macedonia. We're back on Wednesday against Luxembourg.

Great Britain got their maiden win of the campaign with a 96-79 success against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in the Copper Box in London. Ben Gordon and Eric Boateng combined for 35 points, as Team GB washed away the bad taste left from their opening defeat away at Hungary. They will be staying in London for another week, as Luxembourg are visiting on Wednesday, and Hungary are in town next Saturday.
