Slovenia survive Porzingis' late heroics to overcome Latvia in epic Quarter-Final

ISTANBUL (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - Slovenia will meet Spain in the Semi-Finals after a thrilling 103-97 victory over Latvia in an epic Quarter-Final.

In a memorable game that lived up to the hype, Slovenia seemed to have the game wrapped up, leading by 13 points early in the fourth quarter. But Latvia stormed back into the contest through the brilliance of Kristaps Porzingis, who scored 16 of his 34 points in the fourth to get Latvia within one point with 2 minutes left.

Turning point: Slovenia clung onto a three-point advantage with 35 seconds left but a clutch offensive rebound by Edo Muric proved vital and gave his team another chance. Goran Dragic seized that second chance with a driving layup to effectively ice the game.

Stats-don't-lie: Slovenia had a sizeable advantage on the glass with a 41-28 edge. Big men Anthony Randolph and Gasper Vidmar were dogged and combined for 15 rebounds, while Doncic was active with 9 boards.

Game hero: In a game this good, it's only fair to award a player from each team. Fittingly, it was the two young guns who shone brightest. Luka Doncic struggled from deep but hit several clutch threes to prove he loves the big moment. Meanwhile, Porzingis didn't deserve to be on the losing side after his late game heroics despite battling foul trouble.

They said: "That's why he is the best at his age. He's only 18 years of age but he plays with such calmness. People back home are really happy we have him. I'm his roommate...don't get me wrong, he's still a kid. He watches cartoons, he watches Friends but he's unbelievable and we are lucky to have him" - Goran Dragic talking about Luka Doncic after Slovenia reached the Semi-Finals.
