Slovenia or Serbia? One Trophy. Endless Glory. The Final preview

ISTANBUL (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - After two-and-a-half weeks of blood, sweat and tears - and plenty of excitement - FIBA EuroBasket 2017 is set to end with a bang as Slovenia and Serbia fight for championship glory.

Unbeaten Slovenia have taken the tournament by storm as they look for a first championship in their maiden Final. They start favorites but face a confident Serbia, who have won six straight games. After silver medals at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2014 and 2016 Olympics, Serbia are looking to go one better in their first FIBA EuroBasket Final since 2009.

In the Bronze medal game, defending champions Spain will be aiming for a consolation prize when they play Russia, who are looking for their first medal since 2011.

Slovenia v Serbia (20:30 CET/ 21:30 local time)

Tournament form - Slovenia: WWWWWWWW - Serbia WLWWWWWW

Key match-up: Luka Doncic v Bogdan Bogdanovic. This might not necessarily be a head-to-head match-up as the versatile Doncic will likely play at the point and at small forward during stretches. However, his already strong frame makes him a suitable match for Bogdanovic, the 6ft 6in (1.98m) shooting guard.

Bogdanovic is the driving force for Serbia and has formed a deadly inside-outside game with towering center Boban Marjanovic. Bogdanovic has thrived in the clutch, where he came up big against Russia when Serbia was stuttering late. If Serbia are to win, Bogdanovic has to be at his best.

Doncic, the 18-year-old phenomenon, has showcased a devastating all-round game, where he impacts the court in all areas. Doncic's shot has been streaky but he's dominated on the boards and showcased his unparalleled vision when he is the playmaker.

Doncic can control the game in so many different areas making him almost impossible to stop. He has shown a liking for the big stage and one suspects he is priming himself for the Final.

I feel so good! 🇷🇸🇷🇸☺️💄

Breakdown: Slovenia played an almost flawless second-half during their beat down of Spain in the Semi-Finals. Doncic and Dragic were unstoppable, taking turns as playmakers, the shooters were on fire from deep while big men Anthony Randolph and Gasper Vidmar have been energetic inside.

It's a well-rounded and brilliantly coached team with everyone playing their roles to perfection. Obviously, Serbia will have to be at their best to overcome them and need to slow the game down. Slovenia love to play in transition and run and gun which has been testament to their big scores in recent games.

Serbia need to ensure they don't turn the ball over and can control the paint. Marjanovic looms as a key figure and, as he usually does, has a notable size advantage but faces tough opposition in Randolph and Vidmar, who combined brilliantly against Spain's frontcourt.

Serbia will be hoping point guard Stefan Jovic can play after he hobbled off with a leg injury against Russia otherwise more burden will be on Bogdanovic's shoulders.

If Serbia are going to win, they need more contributors beyond Marjanovic and Bogdanovic. A possible x-factor could be small forward Vladimir Lucic, who came up huge against Russia with 13 points and 8 rebounds and will be looked upon to repeat that type of performance.

Spain v Russia (16:00 CET/ 17:00 local time)

Tournament form - Spain: WWWWWWWL - Russia: WWWLWWWL

Key match-up: Pau Gasol v Timofey Mozgov. In what could be his last FIBA EuroBasket game, Gasol will be steeling himself for a big one after the disappointment of losing in the Semi-Finals.

Gasol has had another fine tournament to be the main man for Spain, who once again have a chance to medal. Mozgov will be tasked with stopping Gasol and also provide another option on offense with Russia badly needing more support for star guard Aleksei Shved.

Breakdown: In the Semi-Final, a veteran Spain team were run off the court by a young and energetic Slovenia. It seems a hard task for Russia to replicate as they don't have as many weapons as Slovenia.

Russia's lack of depth was exposed against Serbia in the Semi-Final where only 4 players scored before half-time as they fell in a big hole. Shved has been good enough to do things solo but even his heroics weren't enough in the Semi-Final.

Quite clearly, Shved needs support from the likes of Mozgov and Andrey Vorontsevich, who played well against Slovenia. Spain will attempt to smother Shved and dictate through their slew of talented bigs inside.

Star guard Ricky Rubio will be looking for a bounce back game after a disappointing Semi-Final performance.
