FIBA EuroBasket Trophy Tour catches Play-Off action in Belgium

BRUSSELS (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - Another stop has been completed on the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Trophy Tour, with a midweek trip to Belgium to take in some EuroMillions Basketball League Play-Off action.

The Trophy Tour stop took place from May 24 to 25, with visits to Play-Off games in the coastal city of Ostend and the port town of Antwerp, before a quick visit to the capital Brussels to wrap the tour up.

Belgian national team player Quentin Serron, who was in attendance of the game in Ostend, believes that the Trophy Tour will create more awareness of the event among Belgian fans.

"It's nice to show it to the people who are coming to the game here. It's the European championship this summer and I hope a lot of people have seen this and that will maybe attract them to watch the games or even come to Turkey to support us."

Serron added that despite the tough group his team face when they arrive in Turkey, they are with a good chance of advancing to the Final Phase.

"I think we have a chance. I think the two first games (against Great Britain and Latvia) will be very important for us. Then we have Russia, Turkey and Serbia and we know it's tough. Turkey will play at home and Serbia you know are going to be good. So I think the two first games are very important and then we have to believe in our chances to win every game.

Also on hand for the game was head coach, Eddy Casteels, who has noticed the greater awareness within Belgium for FIBA EuroBasket.

"Of course, behind the scenes you know everybody. When I show up for the Play-Offs and see the game, people come and say, 'Hi coach, good luck.'

"In the past it was a non-factor for Belgium and now these details, like having the trophy in our country is something special and people talk about that. We love the scene and want to continue to build up to a brighter future. Having this trophy here in Belgium was an amazing step and an amazing chance for us to make basketball more popular."

The FIBA EuroBasket Trophy Tour continue in the final days of May with a trip to Final Phase hosts, Turkey.
