Argentina, USA victorious as Americas conference champions of FIBA Esports Open II

MIES (Switzerland) - The FIBA Esports Open 2020 II concluded as Argentina and USA both clinched titles in their respective Americas Conferences.

Argentina repeated their triumph in South America, while USA were crowned inaugural winners in the North and Central America Conference with Uruguay and Dominican Republic beaten finalists.


North and Central America Conference

USA came through a tough North and Central America Conference after sweeping Dominican Republic in the Finals after three teams had finished with the same record in the group phase.

They recovered from an early double-digit deficit to edge the opening game 48-45 before another tense encounter saw Kenneth Hailey (@KennyGotWork_) hit a huge go-ahead three pointer before USA closed out a 60-56 victory to be crowned champions.


Earlier, Dominican Republic started the day with a 64-58 success against Canada before securing their place in the Finals by overcoming Guatemala, 115-37, to finish with a 5-1 record.

USA sealed their spot as the they ran out 121-15 winners against Costa Rica with Malik Hobson (@Originalmalikxx) and John Mascone (@JBMNY--) pouring in 40+ points apiece. Puerto Rico did what they had to do to apply pressure as they brushed aside Honduras in a 110-27 victory before receiving a 20-0 forfeit win over Costa Rica, but came out third in the three-way tie.

There was also a 100-point performance from Darrell Nwobu (@IceRell) with an insane 32-of-38 shooting to cap a memorable individual performance as Canada beat Honduras 137-42 in their final game.

Argentina repeated their title triumph in the South America Conference after overcoming Uruguay in the best-of-three Finals.

MVP Adrian Lopez (@TrulyNumb) carried the load with 43 points to lead his side to a 66-60 success in the opening game before Uruguay hit back with a 73-48 victory to tie the series - handing Argentina their first tournament loss in the process.

The decisive Game 3 was a tense affair and Argentina would eventually prevail by nine points as their defense led the way in the title-clinching 48-39 victory.


Earlier, Juan Martin Olave (@CxrtifiedJuanma_) had 27 points and 14 assists to propel Uruguay to an important win over Brazil and they would wrap up second spot in the group with a dominant 103-39 success over Venezuela.

Argentina wasted little energy in completing a sweep of the group phase as they moved to 4-0 with convincing wins over Venezuela and Bolivia to preserve their unbeaten start.

Brazil signed off their campaign with a 78-42 victory against Bolivia, but would miss out on a spot in the Finals as they finished in third place in the group.

The weekend's action concludes the FIBA Esports Open 2020 II with the final two winners from the six Conferences confirmed.
