MIES (Switzerland) - The global FIBA basketball family on Friday joined forces by taking to social media to celebrate International Women's Day.

International Women's Day also provided an ideal platform to promote the #HerWorldHerRules initiative that was launched earlier this year by FIBA to encourage more young girls to play basketball.

It's a big year for Latvia as they look forward to co-hosting the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 and they also joined in the dual celebration for both campaigns.

Meanwhile FIBA, through its International Basketball Foundation (IBF), took the opportunity to mark the special occasion with a celebration of the numerous activities it has initiated to empower women around the globe, working in partnership with countless FIBA National Member Federations.

There was also a timely announcement by the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), who revealed that as a legacy of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 in Tenerife, there has been a 16.7 percent increase in new playing licenses for female players.
