MADRID (FIBA EuroBasket 2017) - There was more to Spain's victory in a FIBA EuroBasket 2017 tune-up game against Venezuela in Madrid than meets the eye at first glance at the boxscore.

It was business as usual on the court for the Spaniards with a lopsided 90-44 triumph, but the fixture had high symbolic value for the team's long-serving captain Juan Carlos Navarro.

Perhaps not always the most beloved man in the Spanish capital, the 37-year-old FC Barcelona veteran received a powerful standing ovation at Madrid Arena after becoming the national team's most capped player in history.

Staying true to himself, the one-of-a-kind marksman, who has earned himself the "La Bomba" moniker over the years, knocked down three long-range shots in his 240th appearance for his country en route to surpassing the legendary Juan Antonio San Epifanio, himself a guest of honor in the stands.

To mark the record-breaking occasion, the player was presented with a framed copy of the official scoresheet from his first very game for the national team back in 2000 by his former teammate and current President of the Spanish Basketball Federation Jorge Garbajosa.

Having made his international debut as a teenager at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the player has since participated in five Olympics, four FIBA Basketball World Cups and the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2017 will already be his seventh edition of the tournament.

During his time with the national team, Navarro has become a FIBA Basketball World Cup champion in 2006, two-time Olympic silver medalist in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, as well as winning bronze in Rio de Janeiro last year, while also claiming two FIBA EuroBasket titles in 2009 and 2011.
