The Semi-Finals are set!

MANATÍ (FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019) – Following the conclusion of the Group Phase, Cuba will face Mexico and Puerto Rico will meet the Dominican Republic in the Semi-Finals of the Centrobasket Women’s Championship 2018.

Cuba earned its second win of the Centrobasket Women’s Championship following a 99-39 win over Guatemala. Cuba dominated from the start and never looked back. Suchitel Avila led the scoring for the Cubans with 18 points, in a game that featured six Cubans scoring in double digits. Linda Gonzalez was the top scorer for Guatemala with 14 points.

Puerto Rico earned the top spot of Group B with a hard fought 71-66 win over Mexico. Puerto Rico had a better start and took a slight lead on the scoreboard. With great additions from Jennifer O’Neill, who had 22 points in the game, the Boricuas kept adding and took a 22-point lead during the third quarter. Mexico never stopped fighting and with great offensive passages from Jacqueline Luna, the team shipped away from the difference and with 1:30 left of the last quarter, the difference was of one point. Puerto Rico closed the game with a 5-1 run to take the win.

On the last game of the Group Phase, Bahamas defeated Costa Rica in a nail-bitter that was decided on the last moments of the game. 

Tomorrow on the Semi-Finals of the Centrobasket Women’s Championship 2018:
- Cuba vs Mexico
- Puerto Rico vs Dominican Republic.

Meanwhile, on the Reclassification Round:
- Guatemala vs Costa Rica

Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Puerto Rico earned tickets to the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2019, with their qualification to the Semi-Finals of the Centrobasket Women’s Championship.
